The library provides 3 public computers available for use with printing capabilities. Users sign in with their library card number, or can show an ID to request a guest pass. Children 8 to 14 must have a library card unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 7 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. In the Children’s department there are two computers available, made possible by a grant from the Story County Community Foundation–an AWE Early Literacy Station and an AfterSchool Edge tablet.
The Early Literacy Station is designed specifically for ages 2-8 and features over 4,000 localized learning activities. The fun, interactive and engaging content spans all seven curricular areas: math, science & nature, social studies & geography, reading, art & music, writing & computer skills, and reference.
The AfterSchool Edge tablet is designed for children ages 6-12 and includes 65 top-rated educational multi-curricular titles which are ideal for exploration, remediation, and homework assistance.
Wireless Internet Access
The library offers free WiFi to the public. No password is needed and is accessible from inside the library, or outside from the parking lot.
Printing is available from the patron computers at the following rates:
$.25 per page for black and white print
$.50 per page for color print
Black and white photocopies are available at the following rates:
$.10 per copy for 8.5 x 11
$.15 per copy for 8.5 x 14
$.25 per copy for 11 x 17
$.05 per copy when paper is provided by a patron
$.05 for copying on the back of sheet when copying on both sides
The library scanner is available to patrons when staff is available to assist for a maximum of 5 pages per job at a minimum cost of $.50. Items will need to be put on the library’s USB drive and either downloaded by the patron to their email, or emailed to them as time allows.
Laminating is available for items up to 8.5 inches X 11 inches for $2 per page with a limit of 5 pages.
Fax rates are as follows:
$.50 per page when sending in the United States
$3 for the first page and $1 for each additional page when sending outside the United States
$.50 flat rate for toll-free faxes
Delivery of library materials is available to homebound residents of the city of Slater upon request. You must have a current library card with us to use this service.
If an item you are seeking is not available from the Slater Public Library, we can often borrow it from another library through interlibrary loan (ILL). Keep in mind that many libraries will not loan items less than 1 year old and may take a few weeks to arrive. You must have a library card with us to use this service.

A Yamaha Clavinova digital piano is available for public use during the library’s hours of operation. The piano may be used for a variety of purposes, which include practicing for a piano lesson and playing for pleasure. It is not available for use by teachers to conduct piano lessons for profit. First consideration will be given to the programs and activities sponsored by the Library, Friends of the Library and the City of Slater. Additional requests will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis. Headphones provided.
The library Director is a State of Iowa certified notary and available to notarize documents free of charge by appointment during regular business hours.
Test proctoring is available free of charge by appointment. Postage and printing fees are the responsibility of the student. Please read the complete policy then contact the library Director to set up.
