The Friends of the Slater Public Library is a non-profit group that provides volunteer support and funding for projects and events through the Slater Public Library. The Friends operate independently of the library and all donations are allocated to library projects which are voted on by the Friends membership.

Projects

Spring and Fall Book and Bake Sale

The Friends accept used book donations at the library throughout the year. All books, DVDs, and audio CDs are welcome. We ask that encyclopedias not be included. Our biannual Book and Bake Sale is our main fundraising activity.

Holiday Happenings

Periodically the Friends will host a dinner with entertainment. This function is usually held in conjunction with a holiday (Christmas, Valentine’s Day…). Ticket sales go directly to the Friends.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Friends purchase and hand-out  free books and prizes to children that have participated in the community Easter Egg Hunt.

New Circulation Desk

The Friends gave money towards our new circulation desk.

Clavinova

The Friends purchased a clavinova for the library. Patrons are able to sign up for practice times during library hours. The clavinova has also been used during several library programs such as the monthly Soup and Sounds program and our Christmas on Main celebration.

Audio Visual System

With this new system we are able to enhance our Story-TIme, Early Out Program, Summer Reading Program, and many adult programs. We have also hosted movie nights.

Summer Reading Program

Friends fund special programs and some of the prizes for the Summer Library Program for elementary school-aged children and for preschool-aged children. The special live presentations are both educational and entertaining. Reading encouragement is featured throughout.
