Current and Recent Projects

New Library and Community Center

The Friends are working with the Library, Slater Community Club and City of Slater to help raise funds for a new library and community center, with its main focus on furnishings and technology for patron use.  For more information on the building project click here.

Free Little Libraries

In the fall of 2020, the Friends collaborated with Raising Readers of Story County to install Free Little Libraries in Slater and Kelley.  The Friends will use book donations to fill the libraries to provide reading materials for children and adults.  Slater’s little library is located on the playground at Nelson Park, and in Kelley you will find one located next to the school bus stop.

Easter Egg Hunt

In 2022 the Friends gave out approximately 200 books and prizes to the children who attended the Easter Egg Hunt.

Summer Reading Program

Friends fund special programs and some of the prizes for the Summer Library Program for elementary school-aged children and for preschool-aged children. The special live presentations are both educational and entertaining. Reading encouragement is featured throughout.
